Act justly

~Tuesday Thoughts~

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 (NIV)

(I'm dividing this into 3 posts: "act justly", "love mercy" and "walk humbly".)

Webster's dictionary (1993) defines "just" as "fair and impartial in acting or judging; morally right; merited; deserved; based on sound reason".

The Bible tells us time after time that God is just.

He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is he.  Deuteronomy 32:4 (NIV)
The Lord is known by his acts of justice;
the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Psalm 9:16 (NIV)

And the heavens proclaim his righteousness,
for he is a God of justice. Psalm 50:6 (NIV)

He wants us to be just too. Sometimes it can be hard to deal with everyone fairly and impartially, be it our friend, an acquaintance, or an enemy. But God can help us.

“‘Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly. Leviticus 19:15 (NIV)

Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 16:20 (NIV)
How about you? Do you find it hard to act justly? When was a time when you had to choose between acting justly or not?
