Abetting

~Friday for Friends~

This is my first Friday for Friends post ever! I decided to just go through the dictionary I have and discuss the words that have something to do with friendships.

So the first word that had much to do with friendship was 'abet'. To abet means to "incite, encourage or assist". Giving and getting encouragement is a big part of being friends. When your friend is feeling down your timely words or comforting silence can go a long way. And when you're the one who feels low your friend can encourage you on.

Not surprisingly, God's Word encourages us to abet.

"But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness." Hebrews 3:13 (NIV)

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)

Jesus did a lot of encouraging while he was on Earth.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.".  Matthew 5:3-12 (NIV)

And God is still there for you every day and He will encourage you.

Blessings!
